More About Fasting

Fasting

Our fast will be every Wednesday from 7am – 7pm.  We encourage you to seek God about which type of fast you should do. Fasting in Scripture refers to food, however you may also choose to fast from those things that distract you from spending time with God such as TV and Social Media. Individuals are encouraged to consider additional fasting options throughout the 3 weeks, such as:

  • Normal Fast – Abstain from food but hydrate with water, juice or broth.
  • Daniel Fast – Give up certain foods/drinks such as sugar, caffeine, meat, processed food.
  • Media Fast - Limit screen time, social media fast and other distractions

Ultimately, we want to sacrifice as needed to focus on strengthening our relationship with God.

Scripture

Isaiah 58:6 : “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To lose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?”
  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, this is the fast you have chosen for me. As I fast this week, lose the hold of the enemy on any area of my life. Let all heavy burdens slowing me down from fulfilling destiny be removed permanently. Break every yoke dear God and set me free from the oppression of the wicked.

Matthew 6:16-18 : 16  “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17  But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18  so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
  • Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to observe the fast this week according to your written Word. Fill me up with your divine presence so that I do not appear to be fasting. Heavenly Father, hide me in your Secret place as I fast so that I can be a worthy partaker of your blessings in the end, in Jesus mighty name.
